At that moment Sonia walks into his room and he remembers that his mother and sister had heard of her as a young woman of notorious behavior from Luzhin’s letter. He asks her to sit and she tells him that she has come to beg him to be present at the funeral service the next morning. He tells her that he will try his best. He introduces her to his mother and sister who look at her gravely. After some time, Pulcheria Alexandrovna invites Razumihin for dinner. Feeling a little uneasy, Pulcheria and Dounia leave. Pulcheria is worried about Sonia, since she has a premonition that she is the main cause of trouble, but Dounia announces bitterly that Luzhin is a liar.
